Is $7,600 a Fair Price for a Replacement Entry Door?

I just got a quote for a pre-hung 32" x 80" fiberglass insulated entry door with a small window and all the hardware included. The installation is supposed to be pretty simple, taking half a day at most. Initially, they quoted me $10,800 but then offered a discount bringing it down to $7,600. This just seems way too high to me! Since then, I've found a skilled carpenter who can do the same job for only $1,100. Is this kind of pricing typical in the industry? Do people actually pay these inflated prices for door replacements? They also pitched financing, which feels even more unscrupulous. Thoughts?

I feel you! I replaced my front door and storm door by myself after checking out some YouTube tutorials. It took about 6 hours total and cost around $600. You never really know what you'll face with an installation though—sometimes it's straightforward, sometimes you uncover a lot of hidden issues. But for $11k, I'd seriously rethink that!

Exactly! I've had similar experiences. Some projects go smoothly, while others reveal surprise problems that can take way longer than expected. Here's a video of my recent shower remodel that I did myself after watching tutorials—much cheaper than hiring a contractor would have been!

Yeah, it's pretty common for these companies to quote high prices, especially in home remodeling. Many people do pay those prices because they think it's just the way things are. But honestly, if you've got people like that carpenter willing to do it for much less, it makes you realize how inflated those initial quotes can be. Definitely get multiple quotes before deciding!
