How Can I Make a Silicone Mold from a Gummy Bear Without Destroying It?

I'm planning to create a special anniversary gift for my girlfriend—a bracelet pendant shaped like a gummy bear made from silver clay. However, making such a small piece is tricky, so I'm thinking of making a silicone mold using a real gummy bear. My concern is that the gummy bear might dissolve during the mold-making process or interfere with the silicone drying. I've considered coating the gummy bear with something to protect it, like a clear coat, but that might not work either. I'm not interested in buying pre-made molds since I prefer a specific gummy bear shape. What are some options I have to successfully create a mold without ruining the gummy bear?

If you’re up for it, you could try using the gummy bear to create a sand mold first, then use that to cast a gummy bear in tin or another material. Once that’s set, you could use it to make your silicone mold. Just a thought!

Have you thought about freezing the gummy bear before you mold it? Freezing might help keep its shape intact while you make the silicone mold, and it could minimize any concerns about the mold damaging it.

In my experience, if you're worried about the gummy bear dissolving, you could lightly coat it with spray paint or a sealant. Just let it dry completely before adding the silicone. It should work out fine without damaging the gummy bear.

Sounds like a smart idea! Have you tried this method yourself?
