I'm looking to put in a split retaining wall in my front yard, measuring about 25 feet long and 3 feet high. I finally got a quote from a contractor, and they said it would cost $3500. I'm wondering if that's a reasonable price or if I'm getting ripped off. What do you all think?

Retaining walls can be pretty pricey, so $3500 isn't out of the ordinary. If you break it down, it could cover labor and materials. Just keep in mind that quality work usually comes at a cost.
Actually, $46.67 per square foot for a wall like that sounds pretty reasonable to me. Considering labor and material costs these days, I'd say you might be looking at a decent deal unless someone is trying to lowball you with shoddy work.
I built a smaller wall recently, and while the materials were about $1000 for 50 feet, paying someone $3500 seems fair for installation. Prices can really vary depending on the region and the quality of the work.
Exactly! Around here, getting a quote for $5k wouldn't really surprise me at all with how expensive things have gotten lately.

Right? I think it's easy to underestimate how much work goes into these things!
