Where’s your favorite place to buy plants, especially roses?

I'm wondering where everyone sources their plants, particularly roses. I've been to a local nursery where I bought a few roses and a hydrangea. The rose did well, but the hydrangea didn't survive, likely due to heavy snow. I've also ordered roses from David Austin and while they are fantastic, they're quite pricey. My experience with other suppliers has been a mixed bag; for instance, I ordered four hydrangeas from Ashwood Nurseries that thrived, but I had issues with British Roses and Harkness, where the plants were either damaged or unhealthy. I've even had courier problems with my order from Henry Street Nurseries. Am I being too picky or is online shopping just hit or miss? I feel like my success rate is about 50/50. Do you all stick to local nurseries? It's tough for me to find the time, especially since trips can turn into a whole day, complete with overpriced cafe meals!

I'm a big fan of David Austin for my roses too! I've tried cheaper options, but they just don't seem to thrive as well as those from DA. Sure, the prices can sting a bit, but you get what you pay for, right? Definitely considering sticking with them in the future.

I usually buy from local nurseries. There's a great place called Peter Beales Roses nearby, but I’ve found that it's often more affordable to shop around elsewhere. I hear you about the time crunch! Whenever I finally make it to the local nursery, it's like a whole day event with my wife wanting to stop at every cafe! No regrets on the cafe meals though; it’s part of the experience!
