My String Trellis Snapped – What Should I Do?

Hey everyone! I tried setting up string trellises for my tomatoes using jute twine secured with garden staples for the first time. Unfortunately, after some heavy storms, many of the strings snapped and came loose from the ground. I'm thinking of redoing the trellis with something sturdier, but I'm worried that it might disturb the roots of my plants and stunt their growth. What would you recommend? Any suggestions for supporting my tomatoes better?

If you're looking for something that looks similar but with way more strength, check out 1/16" stainless wire rope. It’s not as expensive as you might think, and it’s super strong and weatherproof. Just be aware that crimping can be tough on your hands if you don’t have proper tools!

Hay bale twine is pretty durable and should last you through the season at least. You might want to try using deeper staples or even set up a Florida weave between the posts to help keep things stable.

I've used jute string before and it kept breaking on me. This year, I switched to agricultural twine and it's held up really well! Honestly, I think redoing your trellis with something stronger is the way to go—better than risking your plants falling over and getting damaged. I had that happen last year and it was a nightmare! So definitely consider a sturdier option.
