I'm curious about what most people think; do you believe heavy duty tape is more damaging to wall paint than using thumbtacks? And I wonder which option is considered more unattractive by landlords or parents of kids.

As a teacher for about 15 years, I've noticed that thumbtacks usually cause less damage than tape. They leave behind small holes, but those are way easier to deal with than the mess tape can create.
Honestly, I think heavy duty tape is worse for your walls. It can really pull off paint and even the top layer of drywall. Meanwhile, a tiny hole from a thumbtack is super easy to fix. You could even use things like caulk or spackle to patch it up without a problem.

Totally agree! I've had experience with both, and the tape has ruined my walls before, while the tiny holes from thumbtacks are no big deal.
