What Can I Do with a 1/8″ Thick Board?

Hey everyone! I just got a beautiful 1/8" x 6" x 24" birds eye maple board from Ocooch Hardwoods, just trying to explore some different uses for it. I had initially thought about using it for a jewelry box, but I feel like 1/8" might be too thin for that. What are some practical applications for a board this thin? Is using it for veneering really the only option? Would love to hear your thoughts!

You could definitely use that board for internal dividers in a jewelry box or for decorative marquetry designs. Those are great ways to add some detail without needing a thicker board. Personally, I've found 1/8" to be perfect for smaller, intricate projects.

Totally agree! Those are definitely good options. I also like to use 1/8" for splines when I'm putting boxes together.

1/8" is also handy for lining jewelry boxes, creating dividers, or making lift-out trays. It's lighter, which can be a plus for certain projects.

There are actually tons of options! You can use 1/8" boards for veneering, making laminated lids for boxes, inlays, picture frame details, marquetry, little trays, and even dollhouse furniture. If strength isn't a big deal, it opens up a lot of creative paths! Plus, it's great for laser cutting interesting shapes to decorate other pieces.

While 1/8" might seem thin, you could use it for the top or bottom of a box trapped in a frame for added stability. Just keep in mind the final box will be lighter and a bit more prone to warping, but it's doable! You might want to float it in some grooves.

Yeah, I was thinking the same! Floating them could help with the structure!
