I've got two smoke detectors in my house: an ionization smoke alarm (model i12040a) and a smoke and carbon monoxide alarm (couldn't find the model for that one). I'm trying to figure out if I should keep the i12040a since the other alarm covers both smoke and CO. Is there any real benefit to having two detectors?

Honestly, if they're right next to each other, you might be able to ditch one. But remember, the i12040a and the combo alarm may have different features, so if they both work well, it could just give you that extra sense of security.
Generally, it's a good idea to have smoke detectors spread throughout your home, even if they're close together. They provide more coverage and could potentially save lives in case of an emergency. Even if they're right next to each other, having them can still help in making sure that you get alerted faster in case of smoke or CO. It might just be more reassuring to have two working together!
True! Plus, if one fails, at least the other one is there to keep you safe.

That's a good point! I'll definitely consider their features before making a decision.
