Hey everyone! I'm new here and looking for some advice. A friend of mine runs a dog sitting business and just moved into a new rental home. There's a carpeted area that measures 13x22 feet that she needs to protect from all the dogs. Some suggestions floated around include using horse stall rubber mats and then covering them with vinyl flooring. The goal is to have it waterproof, durable, and visually appealing. However, I'm a bit unsure if that's the best route to take. Any better ideas or tips you can share? Thanks a bunch!

Just a heads up, any material that doesn't allow for airflow, especially waterproof stuff, can trap moisture in the carpet leading to mold problems pretty quickly. Better to choose breathable options.
Honestly, when it comes to dogs, expect some mess no matter what. For flooring, I’d suggest building a sort of raised platform with a plywood top for easy cleaning. You can cover it with waterproof flooring like LVP (luxury vinyl plank). Just make sure to seal everything well to keep it all safe from dog accidents!
I love that idea! It sounds a bit complicated, but definitely worth considering. I did chat with a coworker about creating a small stage-like setup, so this fits right in!
Has your friend talked to the landlord about running a business from there? That might be a risky situation! And just a reminder, they might need to replace the carpet when moving out, so be prepared for that expense.
Good question, I'll check with her about that! It’s tough finding affordable rentals in the area anyway.

That’s a solid point! We’re in Colorado, so mold isn’t as big of an issue as in some areas. But I'll definitely keep that in mind, thanks!
