Hey everyone! I'm looking for some help understanding my asbestos testing results. I had samples taken, and one of the samples (plaster) came back with a reading of less than 1% asbestos. Interestingly, it also stated that it was 100% non-asbestos/non-fibrous. Can someone explain what this means? Is there a risk involved, and should I consider hiring an abatement company? I've attached a photo of the results for reference.

Hey! So, less than 1% asbestos means that while it’s there, it’s at very low levels. In some places, anything over 0.5% can still be classified as asbestos and needs to be handled carefully. It also looks like the sample might have variations since the description mentions different appearances (pale pink vs. gray) in the plaster, possibly indicating renovations. You should check your local regulations regarding asbestos disposal for more clarity.
From what I understand, the report stating <1% indicates that while asbestos is detectable, it’s below the threshold that many jurisdictions consider hazardous. However, the fact that it’s labeled as 100% non-asbestos/non-fibrous might suggest there’s little risk. Still, always better to err on the side of caution and consult an abatement company if you’re concerned, especially if you plan to do renovations.
