What Type of Water Heater Should We Get for Our New Home?

Hey everyone! My fiancé and I just bought our first home, a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom place in Michigan. Unfortunately, it has an old gas water heater from 1973 that's not working anymore, so we need to replace it. We're wondering whether we should stick with a propane tank heater, try an electric one, or go for a gas tankless option. The propane prices seem to be rising, and I've seen mixed reviews about electric. The gas line for natural gas is also not available yet. Any advice on what might work best for us? Thanks in advance!

If you’re considering electric, keep in mind that it might require running a new 220V circuit from your breaker box, which can add to the cost. Sticking with a propane tank might be simpler, or if you want to explore tankless, just ensure your gas line can handle it since tankless models consume more gas.

Thanks for the tip! I’ll check my breaker box this weekend since it’s right next to the heater.

Definitely lean towards a tankless option if you already have propane. The convenience of never running out of hot water is a game changer! Just make sure your gas line is up to par for it.
