Fixing Glass Door Knobs on My 1930s House

I've got a 1930s house with those vintage screw post glass door knobs, but they keep falling off no matter how hard I try to tighten them. I'm looking for advice on whether there's a better product or door knob I can use that won't require me to retrofit the doors. Any suggestions?

If all else fails, look for modern reproductions of those knobs that fit the same screw posts. Some companies make decent replicas that are designed to grip better than the originals. Just make sure to check the dimensions to ensure they'll fit your doors without modification.

It sounds like you're dealing with a classic issue! Make sure the set screw is actually landing on a flat part of the screw post. If you're using a pointed set screw, consider switching to a flat-ended one instead. Also, brass set screws tend to hold better, especially if you can file the end to make it flat for a better grip. Give that a shot and see if it helps!

I’ve tried that too, but mine still managed to get loose. If it persists, you might want to look at some replacement options that fit your existing setup without needing to change everything.

Just a quick thought: sometimes the threads in the post can get worn out. You might try using a thread-locking compound on the screws. It can help keep them from backing out over time. Just be careful not to overdo it since you may need to remove them in the future!

That's a cool idea! I'll give that a try and see if it helps keep them in place longer.
