Need Help Restoring My Record 071 Router Plane!

Hey everyone! I've recently acquired a Record 071 Router Plane, but it's missing some parts. I'm reaching out to see if anyone can help me out with some crucial information. Spare parts are hard to find, so I think whatever you can share will benefit us all.

Firstly, I'm looking for dimensions for the monolithic blade or the cutter stem that has the blade screwed in. I'd love to know if new blades from Veritas or Lie-Nielsen would fit directly and whether it's feasible to create replacements at home, like grinding an HSS blank onto a carbon steel shank. If you happen to have any technical drawings, that would be a bonus!

Secondly, if anyone owns the fence for this model, I'd appreciate dimensions or technical drawings for comparison. I found a 3D model online for a Stanley router fence that I want to compare to see if they're interchangeable.

In exchange, I can share details about some planes I have, like the Record No. 010 rabbet plane and others if someone needs that information!

You might try reaching out to Mike Jenks—he’s on Facebook and YouTube under 'Just Plane Fun'—and he’s got parts for a lot of these old tools. I’ve heard he’s easy to deal with and very helpful. And like others mentioned, it's true sometimes parts from other manufacturers fit pretty well!

Awesome, thanks for the tip! I’ll check him out!

Like others said, Veritas blades should work if you adjust that nut or add a base plate. And if you’re handy with metalwork, you could even shorten the shank and make a new slot if needed. Just a heads up though, Lie-Nielsen blades won’t fit because of their square shank.

Regarding the fence, I really don't think it's necessary. I've never had to use the one that came with my Lie-Nielsen, so you might be fine without it!

I think I understand what you're after! The Veritas blades are a bit longer than the originals. From what I gather, the Record 071 is pretty much the same as the Stanley 71. I own a Sargent 62, which has similar dimensions, and I've had good luck with the Veritas blades in it. I just had to flip the depth adjuster nut upside down, and even ended up adding a 5/16" wooden base later on. It worked out fine!

Thanks for the image! That does clarify the difference between the monolithic blade and the screw-in cutter. I'll go ahead and order the Veritas blade and try your suggestion—fingers crossed it works!

Great tip about flipping the nut! I'll keep that in mind if I try an upgrade. Thanks!
