Should I Choose Oak or Pine for My Guest Room Bed Frame?

I'm in the market for a bed frame for my guest room and I'm torn between using oak or pine. I know that oak is known for its durability and resistance to dents, and since I plan to keep this bed frame for a long time—potentially forever!—I'm inclined towards oak. However, since the bed won't be heavily used and is more for occasional guests, I'm curious whether pine might actually hold up just as well in the long run. The price difference is significant too, with pine being around $500 compared to oak at about $2,200. I also appreciate the slightly more eco-friendly profile of pine. Ultimately, I want a frame that won't need replacing, so if pine isn't sturdy enough, I'll opt for the oak. Plus, I'm looking for wood that won't sap or bleed through, so any advice on that would be great! Here are the two options I'm considering: the pine bed is from [this link](https://plankandbeam.com/products/haven-bed-king?srsltid=AfmBOopnEVvKKUHE5jZHUMkWuVB7th4I-3wSqq7sG-55NHzQimnBAf4Y&variant=45164597870754) and the oak bed is from [this link](https://www.roomandboard.com/catalog/bedroom/beds/emerson-bed). Thanks in advance for your help!

If you're worried about durability, here’s the scoop: While both can last a lifetime, pine might show wear faster than oak, meaning it could start looking shabby sooner. Oak takes stain beautifully if you plan to finish it rather than paint. Also, if you like a lighter color, consider rock maple as it's just a bit more expensive than oak but harder and more durable! Just keep in mind that painted pine can look great and is a classic way to protect it from damage, hiding any dents that might develop.

Pine is definitely not going to fall apart on you. It’s softer than oak, which means it’s lighter and cheaper, but that doesn't make it a bad choice. Oak is harder and a bit more robust, but it can still get banged up over time. Honestly, go with what fits your budget and matches the style of your home. You could likely build an oak frame for what you’d spend on pine, but pine will be just fine for a guest room where there’s less wear and tear!
