Should I Use Ferrules on Stranded Battery Wires for My Inverter?

I'm connecting my EG4 batteries to my 18kPV inverter using stranded wires, which consist of many thin strands. I'm worried these wires might break or get damaged by the connector bolt. The manual doesn't specifically say to use ferrules; it just suggests inserting the wires directly. Is this correct, or should I be using ferrules for better protection?

Yes, it's always a good idea to use ferrules for stranded wires. They help prevent the individual strands from fraying or breaking.

Using ferrules on fine stranded wire is definitely a smart move! Just make sure you choose the right size ferrule and crimp it properly. I've seen issues where poorly sized ferrules let wires slip out, which isn’t fun!

Amen to that! Proper crimping is key.

Check out page 14 of your 18kPV manual! It definitely suggests using wire ferrules for stranded wires, especially for the PV inputs. While it doesn't make a clear mention for battery inputs, they do show ferrules in the illustrations, which implies they might be required as well. It’s a bit annoying when manuals leave important details out, but better safe than sorry! Also, on page 18, they do point out that ferrules are vital for fine-stranded wires, so it seems like using them for your battery setup wouldn’t hurt either.
