I'm an artist working on a large sculpture (about 2 meters tall) and I'm considering covering it with black tar. I want to know if it's safe to paint with and what the best techniques would be for applying it. Any advice on handling it and any potential dangers I should be aware of?

Using black tar for art can be tricky! If you’re talking about road tar, it can be pretty thick and messy. You'll need to heat it up to apply it, so definitely take safety precautions because it’s flammable. Plus, once it sticks to something, it’s nearly impossible to clean off. I recommend doing a test run with a small piece first to see how it behaves before going all out on your sculpture. Just remember, it has a strong smell that lingers for a while!
I think a better alternative might be using black liquid latex or something like plaster for the drip effect. Tar might not harden how you’d want it, and the stickiness could make it tough to manage your sculpture later on. Plus, if you use tar indoors, be mindful of ventilation because of how it might off-gas dangerous chemicals.

Good idea to test it first! And make sure you're in a well-ventilated space if you're working with it!
