What should I do with potted plants that have rooted into the ground?

Hey everyone, I've got a bit of a situation with some potted plants. They've grown roots that have penetrated through the drainage holes and into the soil below. I'm kind of stuck since I can't move the pots easily without risking damage to the roots. I'm really worried about cutting the roots because I don't want to lose the plants. Are there any safe options to deal with this without having to dig them out?

It really depends on the type of plants you have, but most of them can handle a little root loss. Unless they're super delicate, you should be fine just pulling the pot up. It might damage some roots, but they usually bounce back. If the roots are really thick, you might want to try to dig around them first and then cut the pot away carefully.

What types of plants are they? I have a Dwarf Alberta Spruce and a Lawson Cypress, and I've had a similar issue!
