I'm trying to figure out the earliest time I can sow peas in my garden. I know the average last frost in my area is between April 1st and 21st. What are your thoughts on when to get those peas in the ground?

You can safely sow peas as soon as the ground is workable in March. Just make sure to check your local conditions, since it varies by region!
In my experience, if your last frost is later in the season, I start sowing around the third week of February for shoots and then mid-March for pod production. I recommend starting them indoors in modules to plant out a bit later to avoid pests. Peas are pretty hardy, but the frost level in your area matters a lot!
Same timing here! I usually pre-sprout my seeds and plant them under bird netting to keep critters away. If the weather looks good, I might even risk planting them the first week of March for an earlier harvest.
