How can I create a 12V trigger from a 230V power source?

I've got a pretty straightforward question. I have an amplifier that accepts a 12V trigger input, but my pre-amp doesn't have a trigger output. Is there a simple way to create an adapter that would convert the 230V power from a standard wall socket to a 12V trigger signal through a 3.5mm jack? It seems like it should be easy, but I'm not sure where to start looking.

You can definitely achieve this using a step-down transformer that will take the 230V supply and convert it to 12VDC. Just make sure to consider what kind of signal you require (level, timing, duration, etc.). For safety and to prevent any damage, it's smart to use relays or opto-isolation between the two voltage levels.

Consider using a compact 230VAC to 12VDC adapter along with a resistor (around 60 to 80 Ohms) to limit the current. This setup should give you the 12V trigger you need!

I'm curious, what type of audio amplifier has a 12V trigger input? Is it one of those car amplifiers?

No, it's actually the NAD C268.
