Advice Needed for Adding Battery Backup to My Solar System

Asked By SunnySideUp42 On

Hey everyone! I'm already set up with a grid-tied solar system and I'm considering adding battery backup for better efficiency and reliability. I reached out to my installers, and they quoted me around $15,000 for a 13.6kW system, which seems pretty steep. I came across a 10kWh Enphase battery for $6,800, which I'm thinking about. As a newbie in this realm, I'm eager for any advice or insights! What additional equipment do I need, if any?

You might want to look for deals because you can find 20kW of lithium LiFePO4 batteries for under $6,000. Definitely do some research to find the best value out there!

Do you have a website where you found those deals?

It would help if you shared your current system setup, your location, and any specific constraints you have. If you’re up for some DIY, you could definitely save a lot of cash! Just to give you an idea, that price of $6,800 for a 10kWh battery seems pretty high for just the battery itself. I got three 5kW server rack batteries for about $800-$1,600 each, and they've worked great for me!

Yeah, if it's an Enphase product, sure it might be good, but you're really paying a premium for the brand!

Do you have an AC coupled system that provides backup power? If so, what's your setup?
