When is it okay to move a brush pile without disturbing wildlife?

Hey everyone, I've got three large brush piles that I've left out during winter for the local critters. Two of them are tucked away where they won't bother anyone, but the third one is right in the middle of my backyard. We planned to clear it before a backyard event in late July, but I'm starting to have second thoughts. I've noticed a ton of ladybugs and even a rise in fireflies hanging around the pile. I suspect they might be using it for egg-laying spots. I feel guilty about potentially disrupting this habitat. Am I overthinking this? What would you all suggest?

You're definitely not being silly! It’s great that you care about the wildlife. If you absolutely need to clear it, maybe wait until right before the event to gently move it to a less visible spot. That way, you’re not removing their habitat completely; you’re just relocating it.

Exactly! That way it gives the critters a chance to adjust without losing their home.

I’d recommend moving it slowly! I keep mine at the edge of my garden and combine it with some native plants to make it look nice. That way, it still provides shelter but is out of the way. Just take your time with it!
