Is It Really Paranoid to Prefer Local Nurseries for My Plants?

I've been wondering if I'm being overly cautious for only getting my new plants from a specific local nursery. Would it really be a disaster if I picked them up from places like Lowe's or Home Depot instead? I'd love to hear about your experiences with plants from different sources!

I get why people might prefer local nurseries. Big box stores can be a bit dicey with pests. I had a rough time with spider mites from a grocery store plant. If you’re really concerned about plant health, sticking to a reputable source seems smart. In the end, it’s all about where you feel most comfortable buying your plants!

Honestly, I used to buy plants from box stores, but now I mainly get my tropical ones from specialty nurseries. It feels like I’m saving a plant instead of just buying from a retailer. Plus, those box store plants usually need a lot of TLC after you get them home! It's kind of like rescuing them from neglect, haha. I do think it’s nice to support local businesses when you can.

I’ve picked up loads of plants from Lowe's and Home Depot. They're often bigger and cheaper compared to nurseries. Sure, you occasionally find pests, but if you check the plants before you buy, they're usually just fine. I wouldn’t stress too much if you're considering those stores, just make sure they're looking healthy!
