How can I keep my bedroom cool since it’s above the garage?

Hey, everyone! I'm really struggling with the heat in my bedroom, which is located right above the garage. It's July, and the temperatures have been relentless. My room faces the sun in the morning, making it even hotter. Usually, I would just leave to cool off, but I have to work from home this summer, and I need to use my PC in my room. The heat is unbearable—I'm sweating so much that my clothes get soaked, and that's not ideal since I often have to turn on my camera for meetings. I'm a student with a minimum wage job and live with my parents, so I can't afford any big renovations. I mentioned it to my dad, but he doesn't seem to care. I'm worried my computer and laptop might overheat. I've tried using fans, but they just blow warm air, and ice packs melt too quickly. Is there an easy and budget-friendly way to cool down my room? I would really appreciate any suggestions!

Forget the ice packs! A window AC unit is the way to go. Home Depot has 5000 BTU units for around $150, and it's a game changer for cooling your room quickly. It’s worth the investment if you need to be comfortable for work.

Totally! A window shaker is definitely the best solution.

You could try using foil to blackout the windows and even tack old blankets to the walls to keep heat out. I’ve done that before, and it can help a lot. If the garage gets hotter than outside, try opening the garage door and setting up a box fan to blow air into the house to reduce the heat in your room.

Honestly, consider getting a window air conditioner. You can find one on Facebook Marketplace pretty cheap. Just keep an eye out for Midea models because there’s a recent recall on them, but they can be repaired if you end up with one of those.

Good point! Those units can be fixed, but it’s better to be aware before you buy.
