M12 vs. M18 Oscillating Tools: Which One Should I Choose?

Asked By ElectricBlueSky88 On

I'm looking to purchase an oscillating tool and I've seen mixed opinions about the M12 and M18 models. Some folks seem to prefer one over the other, so I'd love to hear your recommendations! As an electrician, I'd appreciate advice tailored to that profession, but general insights are also welcome. Thanks in advance!

I’ve used both and honestly, the M12 Fuel surprised me with its power. It's compact and perfect for maneuverability, plus it doesn’t cause as much hand strain. For smaller jobs and details, it's my go-to. But don’t underestimate the M18; it can handle a lot of heavy-duty tasks quite well!

I’ve heard that the newer M12 models have fewer issues than the older versions too.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I might go for the M12 for my detailed work.

While the M12 is great for lighter tasks, I'd personally recommend the M18 Fuel if you're looking for something that can handle more than just trim work. It's got battery life and durability, plus the auto feature is handy. For an electrician, the M12 will definitely do the job, especially if you're not tackling heavy duty all the time!

I've noticed that the auto feature on the M18 is a love-it-or-hate-it type thing.

Sounds like a solid plan! I tend to agree with you.

If you're doing heavy work, I'd definitely lean towards the M18 Fuel. It's powerful, perfect for cutting in boxes, and a total game changer for more serious tasks. Just make sure to splurge on the Fuel version, the standard M18 doesn't compare. Plus, don’t forget to grab some good carbide blades—they make a big difference!

Appreciate the tip! I’ll be going for the Fuel model for sure.

Good tip on the blades! Having some cheaper ones around for woodwork sounds smart.
