I've got this attic bedroom upstairs that faces east and gets blasted by the morning and afternoon sun. The temperature reached 90 degrees in there this evening, even with the AC on, while the heat index outside is hitting 110! I'm looking for ways to cool it down without the hassle of ripping out drywall, adding 2x6 studs, and insulating extensively. I came across a wild suggestion about putting foam board insulation over the drywall. I know it might look a bit off, but is that a bad idea? Would using the kind with a radiant barrier help? Or am I just losing it in this heat?

If you're really struggling with the heat, consider injecting foam into the wall cavities for better insulation. Another option could be a mini split system dedicated to that room—it could help keep things cool without breaking the bank on your electric bill. Just a thought!
Be careful! Exposed foam can be a fire hazard since it melts and can release harmful chemicals. It’s usually a better idea to just insulate the walls properly instead of covering them up with foam that has to be protected anyway.
I didn’t think about fire risks! I already have fiberglass insulation in place, just not enough of it.
Putting foam board on your walls doesn't sound like the best idea. It'll be visible and could create issues down the line.

I've got fiberglass insulation in there already, but yeah, I’m cautious about the electric bills. They’re going to be high as it is.
