Need Help Designing a Full Bathroom in My Basement!

Hey everyone! My wife and I are moving into our first house next month, and we need to urgently convert a standalone toilet in the basement into a full bathroom. I'm pretty sure I can handle the renovations myself, but I'm looking for advice on how to do it effectively. I'm thinking of removing the toilet, building an 8-inch platform on the concrete floor, and then adding plumbing for a sink, shower, and moving the toilet under this platform. I hope to frame the walls, put in a moisture barrier, and finish off with drywall and paint—all without having to break or pour any concrete. Does this sound like a solid plan for a weekend project?

Sounds like an interesting project! Just make sure your step into the bathroom doesn’t cause any tripping hazards. Are you planning on keeping it just one step up? That should work, but stay cautious with any transitions between the flooring to avoid issues later on.

Yeah, just one 10-inch step is all I'm going for. Should keep it simple!

Honestly, I'm not filled with confidence about this. Have you got a budget in mind? And what’s your experience like with plumbing, electrical work, and framing? Just a heads up, these kinds of projects often take way longer than you expect, so plan for some extra time just in case!

You got this! It sounds like you have a solid plan and some good experience under your belt. Since you’ve done electrical and plumbing work before, just remember to double-check all your steps, especially with water and drainage. It’s better to be safe than sorry!

Thanks! I've been a home remodeler and worked as a plumber's apprentice, so I'm familiar with the basics. Just looking for some reassurance!
