Hey everyone! I've just renovated my small bathroom and replaced the old drywall with moisture-resistant drywall. After I mudded and taped it, I found out that drywall is not recommended for use in showers anymore. I was planning to use a primer and Red Guard before tiling with ceramic, but now I'm wondering if I should just go ahead and replace the drywall with cement board instead, especially since there's been mold and moisture issues in the past. What do you all think?

Honestly, I wouldn't use any kind of drywall in a shower at all. Even the moisture-resistant stuff seems risky to me. If I were doing this, I’d go for cement board right off the bat to avoid future issues, especially since you've had problems before. Better to overbuild and not have to deal with it later!
I'd recommend using a waterproof membrane like Schluter Kerdi over the drywall instead of replacing it. It's designed for showers and can save you a lot of hassle compared to ripping everything out. It's a solid product!
I asked for similar advice at Home Depot once, but didn't get pointed in the right direction. Glad you brought this up!

Totally agree with this! Kerdi is really good for the job, and it's such a pain to remove drywall once it's installed. Just go with it!
