SW Emerald Enamel vs Other Paints for a Half Bath – What’s Your Experience?

Asked By CreativePanda42 On

I'm looking to spruce up my tiny half bath with a fresh coat of paint on the vanity and wall cabinet. I've tackled some basic DIY projects around the house over the last few years, so I feel fairly confident, but I still consider myself a beginner. I've come across Sherwin-Williams' Emerald enamel as a popular option, but I'm feeling a little intimidated by working with enamel paint. How beginner-friendly is it really, considering factors like drying time and the final finish? Should I consider another type of paint for a similar look? Thanks for any tips!

Just a heads-up: Emerald enamel is different from the regular Emerald. Make sure you're clear on which type you're considering. If you want something really durable, SW Emerald is a solid choice. I’ve used it in semi-gloss for trim and it’s held up beautifully. It might seem like overkill, but if you're aiming for a smooth finish, it really delivers!

I've used Ben Moore Aura and it's fantastic! If you're looking for something really special, Aura Bath and Spa is worth the extra bucks. It's especially great if you're worried about humidity. That said, it might be a bit much for just a half bath.

Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll keep that in mind for my other bathroom, where the humidity is a bigger issue.

I found that using SW Emerald is no hassle compared to other brands like Behr, which can be pretty thick and hard to manage. The self-leveling properties of Emerald are excellent too, so even if you're not perfect, it will smooth out nicely. Just make sure you pick the right sheen for your needs!

That’s good to know! I’m planning on using a primer since it’s laminate. Do you think that will affect how the Emerald works? Oh, and is it better to use a brush instead of a roller with this paint? I'm getting overwhelmed with all the methods!
