I just bought 4 coco plum bushes and some Timberline manure compost from Home Depot. The staff there recommended digging a hole, adding compost, placing the plants in, and then filling the rest of the hole with compost only, avoiding the natural dirt altogether. Does that sound right? It seems a bit odd to me.

You're probably in Florida, right? Don't worry too much—the plants will grow fine either way. But I'd recommend mixing that compost with the soil you dug out of the hole. That Timberline compost can actually work as a great growing medium because it’s mixed with sand. I’ve filled entire raised beds with it before and had happy plants. It’s not just an amendment!

lolol, what gave it away that I'm in FL? Yes, I'm in South Florida. Thank you very much! I'm going to hydrate, then jump on it. Are you in FL by any chance? I installed 4 red hibiscus 3 weeks ago, watered them 2 times a day, and they're all dead now. Any ideas what happened??? I wondered if I watered too much, but they seemed to perk up every time, until they just gave up.
