Hey everyone! My husband and I just had a drywall company at our house for the last week to remove popcorn ceilings and textured walls in our open living room, kitchen, and dining area. They did a great job protecting our floors and cabinets, but now there's dust everywhere, and I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed. They mentioned they would clean up after themselves, but to what extent? What are some effective ways to tackle this dust without just spreading it around? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

If you're looking for a way to filter the air while cleaning, consider making a DIY air filter with box fans and furnace filters. It helped a lot during our remodeling phase! Just be aware, even with the best efforts, a thin layer of dust might still end up everywhere. When the contractors finished, we used our air filter and vacuumed and dusted what we could in other rooms. Honestly, just try to get to a 'good enough' level of clean until the work is done, then you can do a thorough deep clean!
First off, make sure to seal off the area as best as you can and consider using exhaust blowers to create negative pressure; this really helps keep additional dust from spreading around while you work. For the cleanup, avoid cleaning with water initially, as it will turn the dust into mud! Use a good shop vac with a HEPA filter and some brush attachments to effectively get the dust up without just blowing it around. It might take some time, but it’ll be worth it for a thorough clean!
I totally feel your pain! I recommend getting a shop vac and starting from the top and working your way down, vacuuming a little bit each day. That drywall dust is so fine, it just gets everywhere! And don't forget to check your AC air filter often – it'll pick up a lot of the dust floating around.
