Should I Use Landscape Fabric for Pea Gravel Walkways?

I'm planning to create some walkways in my garden using pea gravel, but I'm unsure if I should lay down landscape fabric underneath. My garden beds will be on top of native soil, and I'm looking for suggestions on whether the fabric is necessary, or if there might be better alternatives. I'm not a fan of using mulch, so what do you think?

You definitely want to use landscape fabric if you're putting pea gravel on the soil. It helps keep the gravel separated from the dirt, preventing it from just sinking in and disappearing. Sure, you might get some weeds growing through the gravel, but it's way better than losing half of your gravel into the soil! Just keep in mind, it's not a miracle fix, but it does help a lot.

Honestly, I think landscape fabric is a bit overrated. Pea gravel is awesome for walkways, just make sure you periodically spray for weeds and you should be fine. No need to complicate things with fabric if you don't want to!

That's interesting! I didn't realize the fabric wasn't necessary for the upkeep. Good to know!
