I'm looking to invest in a quality sander and I'm primarily sticking with brands compatible with the Milwaukee tool ecosystem. I've been considering Festool, specifically their base models. I have a 'buy once, cry once' mentality, so I'm ready to invest in something good. Any recommendations?

I've got to say, the 3M Xtract is the best sander I've ever used. Seriously, it makes sanding almost enjoyable! If you get a chance, definitely check it out.
For serious sanding, consider investing in a compressor to use the Dynabrade X52H. It's hands down the best sander I've used! Also, having a 2x3 square sander is great for corners and edges; both Mirka and Festool are solid choices—but Dynabrade is simply fantastic! Just a heads up though, you might need a bit of space for that compressor!
I've seen the Dynabrade in action, and they're indeed fantastic machines. If you can manage the compressor situation, it could be worth it!
If you're leaning towards Festool, you won't regret it! Their sanders are amazing, especially when hooked up to a vacuum or extractor to keep the dust down. Your hands will thank you too!

I totally get that! I used Dynabrades back in my autobody days, but I just can't justify getting a compressor now. They are incredible sanders though, too bad about the dust extraction.
