How Can I Properly Insulate My Closet Ceiling?

I've got a closet that's been DIY'd by the previous owners, and it ends up being really hot in the summer and super cold in the winter. I've managed to use rigid foam board on the outer walls (gained access from the attic), but I can't get to the ceiling from there. The inside of the closet is already finished, so I'm wondering if anyone thinks it would be a good idea to use rigid foam board on the ceiling as well. My plan would be to cut it to size, glue it up, and then paint it to match the walls. Any thoughts?

Foam board on the ceiling can work! You might want to put a sheet of drywall under it to finish it off like a regular ceiling. It'll not only insulate better but will also give a nice aesthetic touch. Just be careful with the installation to ensure it's secure!

Just to clarify, was the closet an extension of the home? It sounds pretty tricky without attic access for the ceiling insulation.

Yes, it was an extension. That’s why I’m trying to find a solution for the ceiling!
