I'm planning to start a garden with a variety of plants like carrots, onions, potatoes, peas, lettuce, parsley, garlic, basil, rosemary, and tomatoes. I'm trying to figure out how to manage my costs—what essential items do I absolutely need, and what purchases could I delay without sacrificing the quality of my garden or the protection of my plants?

First off, congratulations on starting your garden! One great way to save money is by saving seeds from your harvest each year. Also, keep an eye out for damaged bags of potting soil at stores—they might sell them to you at a discount. Purchasing bulk fertilizers can really help as well; something like a 12-12-12 fertilizer is super effective, and you don’t need to use much. Good luck!
You might want to check local groups on Facebook or community boards for free or cheap gardening supplies before buying anything. Second-hand shops often have gardening tools, and some libraries even offer free seed banks or tool rentals. Also, consider getting a rain barrel to save on watering costs—my city distributes them for free once a year!
Is that seed bank thing just in the US? I don't think ours in the UK do that, but I'll definitely check out local shops and charity shops!

That’s such a smart idea about seed saving! I’m also starting a compost pile to help with my soil, hoping it'll cut some costs too. Thanks for the tip!
