Frustrated with My 10-Inch Miter Saw Experience

Hey everyone, I'm feeling pretty let down with my recent 10-inch miter saw purchase. I've been using a 7 1/4 inch model, but wanted to upgrade for easier upright trimming. The box claims it can handle 5.75" trim standing up, which seemed great until I tried making a 45-degree cut with my 4.25" base molding for a bookcase. While it almost made the cut, it just couldn't finish due to some interference. This saw cost $600, so I'm really disappointed and plan to return it to Home Depot soon.

I feel your pain! I had the same issue with my 7 1/4 saw—they advertise a vertical capacity that just doesn't hold up when you're angling. It's really frustrating when you expect more for what you pay, especially if you’re trying to do precise work like trim. Maybe consider switching to a different brand. My experience with local dealers has been much better for advice and support, too.

I'm with you on the quality issues. I bought a Milwaukee model in 2016 and it felt underpowered, leading me to sell it. It seems like they're not as solid as they should be. If you have the option, try to test out a different brand, like the Flex tools. I’ve heard great things about their miter saws, especially for heavy-duty jobs. Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll definitely look into Flex tools for my next purchase.

Honestly, if you're struggling with a 10-inch saw, it might be time to upgrade to a 12-inch model. It seems to handle larger cuts without the interference you faced. I switched to a 12-inch Flex miter saw and it's made a world of difference for me—super powerful and reliable, plus it can handle heavier material easily!
