Is it Safe to Eat Lettuce with Bite Marks from Critters?

I've been dealing with some little critters munching on my lettuce in my garden, and I've read mixed advice online. Google suggests tossing any lettuce with bite marks because of the risk of parasites. Since I have rabbits hopping around my raised beds (I'm putting up a fence this weekend), I'm wondering if I really need to discard all the lettuce with even just minor damage. Some leaves have bites, and others have definitely been stepped on by those cute little feet. This is my first vegetable gardening experience, so I'm not sure how cautious I should be. What do you all think?

I just wash my lettuce under running water and eat it. Bugs only bite because they enjoy it, so why should we be fussed about it? If it looks fine otherwise, you're good to go!

I have no issues eating holey lettuce! I just rinse them thoroughly to get rid of any critters and then enjoy. I've been doing it for years without getting sick.

Honestly, I say just wash it well! I usually soak my veggies in a diluted vinegar solution, then rinse them off. I'd rather eat home-grown veggies with a few bites than the chemically treated stuff from the store. There's a good chance our store-bought stuff has had critters on it too without us knowing!

If it's just a few marks here and there, I'd say it's totally fine. If there’s serious damage, maybe skip that part. Some people even believe that certain strains that get a bit nibbled on, like 'bug bitten tea', develop unique flavors! So, a few bites might even add to the character of your salad!

Go ahead and eat it! It’s way cleaner than the mass-produced stuff. You’d be surprised how far your homegrown veggies come in comparison. Just rinse and enjoy!
