What are your regrets when it comes to buying expensive tools?

I recently made a big purchase of a benchtop planer with retractable wings, thinking it would be a great addition to my workshop. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a hassle and definitely not worth the money, so I ended up selling it. Has anyone else here bought pricey tools only to regret the decision? I'd love to hear your experiences to help me avoid making similar mistakes in the future! Thanks!

I splurged on the Kreg straight edge XL, thinking it would save me from needing so many clamps. What a mistake! It still needed clamps to stay straight while cutting. I ended up returning it the next day. What was I even thinking?

I regret purchasing a Leigh dovetail jig and a mortise and tenon jig. They really frustrated me, and I ended up selling both. Now I've learned to do these joints with hand tools, and I actually enjoy it more. I even got a power mortiser for less than what I paid for one of those jigs!

Can't pinpoint a specific tool I regret, but I usually flip them on the marketplace as soon as I realize they're not what I need. I've learned not to impulse buy as much because they might seem like a good deal at the time!

I bought a Kreg circular saw crosscut guide that I thought would be amazing, especially since it was on sale. Turns out it wasn't square at all and couldn't be adjusted. They actually discontinued it for a reason!

So true! I used it maybe three times before I gave up and forgot about it.

What brand of planer did you buy? I've been eyeing a few but I definitely want to learn from your experience!

It was the King Canada 10" benchtop jointer.
