I'm getting a bit anxious as the planting season is winding down, and I really want to get some crops in the ground. Unfortunately, I don't have a garden bed, so I'm looking to plant vegetables in containers instead. I'm starting with tomatoes and wondering if a large flower pot would work for them. Should I consider getting some Tupperware from a thrift store instead? Also, is it worth it to buy soil from Walmart or should I look for better options elsewhere? Since I'm new to this, I'm open to suggestions on other veggies that do well in larger containers too!

I recommend using Pro Mix blended with some compost—it’s worked wonders for me! As for containers, go with 5 gallon buckets or larger pots; those work great. Don't underestimate grow bags either, or even those big Ikea bags—they can serve as planters in a pinch!
5 gallon buckets from a hardware store are perfect for growing tomatoes! Just make sure to drill some holes in the bottom for drainage and mix in some compost for nutrients. You'll find that this method works for a variety of vegetables too.
I just picked up the cheapest soil mix from Home Depot and it’s been working fine for me. They often have good quality options at a low price. I'm currently growing cucumbers with it—let's see how that goes! Keep an eye out for sales; you might score a good deal!

Yeah, those Ikea bags can really save you space and they drain well too!
