I've been putting off upgrading my garage floor since we moved in a couple of years ago, but I'm really eager to give it a fresh look! The garage is around 180 sq ft and mainly used for basic storage and small DIY projects, as we don't park our cars in there. I'm considering a few options: 1) hiring a professional which would cost quite a bit, 2) doing a DIY epoxy floor that sounds simple from the YouTube tutorials, but mine needs more work than those in the videos, or 3) just painting the floor and laying down some tiles like Swisstrax. I'm leaning towards option 3, but I'm worried about a raised section by the door—can I tile over that? Given the garage doesn't see heavy use, would this be a good approach? I want to keep costs low and make it easy to complete. Thanks in advance for any advice!

Going with tiles seems like a solid plan, especially since you want to create a gym space. As for the raised section by the door, most tile systems can handle that! Just make sure to use a good adhesive. They look great and can hold up to light workouts without any issues.
Honestly, option 2 has some appeal! Most YouTube tutorials show ideal scenarios, so it’s good to manage expectations. You mentioned needing to rent a grinder? Those can add up quick. If you go DIY, just make sure you’ve got all your tools lined up ahead of time!
That's true! And you might want to factor in time as well, since it can take longer than expected if it’s your first time.

Yes, and they’re easy to replace if one gets damaged! I think you’d really enjoy the setup.
