Need Help Choosing Bulbs for a Woodland Memorial

Hey folks! I recently lost my Pops, and I'm planning to have his ashes buried in the 'Woodland Walk' area at my local crematorium. The good news is that I can do anything natural in that space. I'm thinking of placing a slice of tree trunk on top and adding some wooden mushrooms. I really want to plant some bulbs around the stump to bring some color throughout the seasons. Since it's a woodland area, I know winters can be pretty dark, so I need some advice on what types of bulbs would work best. I'm not experienced with gardening at all—honestly, I'm quite bad at it! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I’m really sorry to hear about your Pops. Your idea sounds beautiful! For late winter to early spring, you might want to consider planting some celandine, aconite, and snowdrops. They all do well in shady areas. As spring rolls in, daffodils and bluebells would be lovely too. For summer and autumn, check out the RHS website; they have tons of ideas for woodland-friendly bulbs. Whatever you decide, I’m sure it’ll look amazing!

Here are some great woodland bulbs you can consider, especially since you’re in the UK: Winter Aconite blooms from January to February, Wild Tulips flower from March to April, and Wild Daffodils are also a lovely choice for that time. You could also go for Wood Anemones and English Bluebells for a beautiful spring display. Don't forget about Lily of the Valley and Ivy-leaved Cyclamen for late blooms! Just double-check the bluebells are the native species for an authentic look. Take care, and I hope your memorial brings you comfort!
