Hey everyone! I'm working on a remodeling project and need some advice on soundproofing our bedroom doors. They face our living room where my sound system is located, and we want to minimize sound coming through, especially during movie nights when the kid is sleeping. My plan is to laminate a sheet of mass-loaded vinyl (MLV) between two panels that I'll paint to match the hallway. I'm just not sure whether to use MDF or plywood for the outer panels. Does it make a difference? Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

It sounds like you've got a solid plan! One thing to consider is that while the door itself is important, the gaps around it can really make a difference in soundproofing. A heavy solid core door can help block sound, but if there are gaps, sound will still sneak through. Make sure to seal those properly! Also, check out some soundproofing tips online—it can help a lot!

Thanks for the tip! I’ll definitely look into sealing those gaps. I’m replacing hollow doors with solid ones, and I plan to use weather stripping and add drywall on both sides of the wall. Just trying to figure out if the type of wood really matters in the overall soundproofing!
