So, my outdoor hose spigot broke and started leaking. After a fruitless search for the water shutoff valve, I had to call the city to turn off the water supply so I could fix it. However, even after they turned it off, the spigot is still leaking! I thought it might just be residual water in the pipes, so I turned on several sinks to drain them out. They've been running for over an hour now. Should I keep them on until they're no longer running, or is there something else I should do?

It sounds like your water might still be on. Usually, when the main supply is shut off, there’s just a short burst of pressure that can knock out the water quickly. It could be a drip for a while, but if it’s flowing continuously, there’s likely an issue. Giving the city a call might be wise to double-check.
You should definitely check around your water meter for a shutoff valve. If the spigot itself isn’t completely broken, it might just need some parts replaced. Good luck!
I’ve checked there and other places like near the water heater, but no luck. Our house is about 60 years old, so I’m not sure if it even has a shutoff valve. I’m planning to call a plumber for help finding it or installing one once we get the water off.

Okay, thanks for that info! I guess I’ll have to get them back out here!
