First Time Painting a Wall – Did We Make Mistakes?

Hey everyone! My wife and I decided to repaint a wall from white to a pastel green, but we're feeling unsure about how it turned out. We started by sanding the wall to fix some imperfections, dusted, and wet wiped the surface before painting. The hardware store advised us against using primer since we were painting over a white wall that was done two years ago. The first coat was quite the learning experience, and we're starting to wonder if we've messed something up. It looks a bit streaky, and we're concerned that the color might not match our expectations. We're wondering if we diluted the paint too much or if there's something else we should consider before applying a possible third coat. Here's the color we aimed for: [Herb Bouquet](https://www.asianpaints.com/catalogue/colour-catalogue/green-wall-colours/herb-bouquet.html). Also, I included a link to a timelapse video of our painting process: [Timelapse Video](https://youtu.be/M-tFLc7X4DQ?feature=shared). Any tips would be appreciated!

I think a third coat is definitely a good idea, especially since you’re painting over white. Just keep in mind that too much water can affect the paint’s adhesion and coverage. Next time, if you feel uncertain, it’s a good idea to stick with the primer advice for any wall type. You’re doing great for your first time; just push through that third coat and it'll look awesome!

Didn’t see anything wrong with your video! A small roller extension can make a big difference for those hard-to-reach spots. I typically recommend two coats for any paint, even the high-quality stuff. If the color isn’t quite right, definitely talk to the paint store – colors can look different on screens, so get a sample next time. Best of luck with the final coat, I’m sure it will turn out great!

It sounds like you're on the right track! If you added water to the paint, you might have thinned it too much, which can cause streaking. Generally, for a pastel color like yours, at least two coats should do the job, but a third coat might be necessary, especially given that it's a mid-tone green. For your next projects, consider using a paint with primer – it usually helps with coverage and durability. Don't fret too much; just give it another coat and see how it looks!

Thanks for the advice! I was worried about needing that third coat. I'll definitely keep the primer tip in mind for next time.
