Hey everyone! I have a Dogwood stump on my property that's been there since I cut the tree down over a year ago. I tried drilling some holes into the stump today to help it rot, but I ran into some issues. In a lot of spots, my drill bit actually started smoking due to overheating, and I wasn't able to drill as many holes as I wanted. Am I doing something wrong here? Should I just push through the smoke, or is there a better way? I appreciate any advice!

Sounds like you could be using a dull bit or something meant for metal; that would definitely struggle with wood. Just make sure you're using a sharp wood bit and go slow to avoid overheating!
Dogwood is pretty tough, so you're gonna need a sharp wood bit. And honestly, you don't want to use an expensive bit since drilling into a stump can be rough on the tool.
You might want to give a spade bit a try! They can really help when drilling into stumps. Just make sure you're using the right type for wood – it can make all the difference!
I wasn’t going in reverse, but I think you’re right about the bit. It was an old one I had for metal work.
