I recently discovered a large hole in my crawlspace where the main water line enters my home, which was built in the 1950s. I'm currently doing extensive renovations, including installing a new vapor barrier, sump pump, and dehumidifier. As I was cutting out some old galvanized steel pipes from a previous heating system, I came across this pit. I'm wondering if it's typical for it to be like this and whether I should fill it with gravel or something else before putting down the vapor barrier.
