Hey everyone! I'm diving into a new project where I need to join two plates using bolts. The idea is to adjust the tension on the bottom plate so the top plate can move a bit. I've added threaded inserts to one plate to keep the bolts secure, but they just go through drilled holes in the adjustment plate. I'm on the hunt for some kind of wood insert that has a smooth inner surface—like a 'non-threaded' threaded insert? Any suggestions?

Have you thought about drilling out the threads on an insert? Just a thought, might not leave you with a lot of material to work with. Alternatively, try adding a bronze or steel sleeve as a bushing. Just make sure to rough up the outer surface and clean it well before epoxying it in place!
There are lamp cord bushings that are smooth inside, but I'm not sure if they’ll hold up for your project. The bronze bushing idea is solid though! They come in different sizes and shouldn’t wear out easily.
You might want to look into threaded sleeves. Companies like Hafele make them for cabinet hardware, although they’re still threaded inside, which might not suit your needs.
