Using Freshly Cut Oak Slabs for Countertops: Is It a Bad Idea?

Asked By CraftyCucumber42 On

I recently purchased some cabinets for my garage and I'm considering using freshly cut white oak slabs as a countertop. The slabs are 25 inches wide, 126 inches long, and 3.5 inches thick. I'm curious about what will happen if I use them without any sealers over time. Are there issues I should expect?

Using freshly cut oak slabs as countertops can lead to a lot of problems. Over time, you might see twisting, cupping, splitting, and other forms of warping. It's really not recommended for a stable surface, especially in a garage setting.

Will it twist enough that it won't lay flat? Just asking since it’ll be a workbench counter.
