Hey everyone! I'm looking for some advice on what power tools to invest in. I've been using Ryobi 18v brushed tools for about 10 years, but since moving to a farmette a few years ago, my tool needs have really changed. Now I mostly work cordless, and while I do have some Milwaukee M18 and M12 tools, I'm wondering if I'm overdoing it with the M18s. I don't use my tools daily and sometimes they'll sit unused for days or weeks, and I'm concerned about battery life with such infrequent use. I do believe in investing in quality tools, but I'm not sure if I really need Milwaukee stuff since I'm not using them professionally. On top of that, I've had Ryobi tools as well, which are also good for our lifestyle products. Should I keep investing in M18 and M12, or am I better off with something less heavy-duty? Thanks for any tips!

Honestly, I've used Milwaukee tools at home and Dewalt at work. Dewalt tends to be cheaper and gets the job done without a hitch. If you're not working on heavy duty projects every single day, you might find you don't need M18. Dewalt's 20v line has been reliable for what we need at work. If you find good deals on their tools, it could save you some cash while still giving you what you need!
I've got the same dilemma with my tool collection—M18 is definitely the heavy hitter, while M12 covers general tasks. And I also think having Ryobi isn't a bad idea since they have some inexpensive options that might fit your needs perfectly. My M18 batteries are still going strong, and I’ve had them for years. Don't worry too much about their downtime; they’re durable enough to withstand infrequent use! Embrace all three platforms; each has its own strengths!
I totally get where you're coming from! I also run a small farm and started off with cheaper tools. When I switched to Milwaukee M18, everything changed. I love the FUEL line; they really hold up against tougher jobs. Plus, a lot of Milwaukee tools come with batteries, so I don't think you'll face battery replacement issues anytime soon. Trust me, switching to Milwaukee will make your life easier in the long run! And if you're doing a mix of jobs, their M12 tools are great too for lighter tasks.
That's good to know! I appreciate hearing that other homesteaders are happy with Milwaukee. Sounds like it'll be worth the investment.

That sounds like a solid plan! Balancing different brands can work out to your advantage.
