Is One Gable Vent Enough for Attic Ventilation?

I own a 460 square foot home with a 4/12 pitch roof, and I realized that my soffit vents are boarded up from the inside despite having them on the exterior. Currently, the only ventilation I have are two gable vents that are spaced 23 feet apart. I'm wondering if these gable vents alone are sufficient for proper attic ventilation, or should I consider installing an attic ventilation fan to ensure good air circulation? My house was built in 1972, and I haven't noticed any moisture or mold issues, but I'm concerned about maintaining energy efficiency.

From what you’ve described, relying solely on gable vents might not provide optimal ventilation. Ideally, you want intake and exhaust vents working together, and without soffit vents, your gable vents may not be enough. Adding an attic fan could help, but make sure you have adequate intake vents for it to be effective. If you can, consider opening up some soffit vents or finding another way to get fresh air in—just a thought!
