I'm working with a 200A GE outdoor panel that already has a 200A breaker to shut off the whole system. The meter box is positioned right next to this panel, leaving no space between them. From the installation manual, it suggests installing the Gridboss in series with the disconnect, but I'm concerned that would mean placing it in series with the panel itself. Is that acceptable, or should the Gridboss be installed between the disconnect and the main panel instead?

Your setup sounds tricky but manageable! Since the meter is right next to the load center, it's likely you'll need a tech to disconnect the meter first to reroute the power to the Gridboss before going to the panel. It seems like you can't wire it in series after the disconnect based on what you've described. Just ensure you have everything laid out clearly before starting!
From what I've gathered, it's probably best to place the Gridboss between the meter disconnect and the panel. This way, you can avoid having to pull the meter just to disconnect the power for installation. If you could share a picture of your setup, that would really help clarify things! Also, do you have a separate load panel anywhere else?
